Hi there! It’s great to have you here!
I’m Savannah, a new mother, grateful wife, advocate for all things holistic, and a brand new blogger! I am also a Registered Nurse and Family Herbalist. Let me explain how I got there, my experiences have been really formative in my current health and wellness views!
When I was deciding what to major in, I had three main interests: Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, and Nursing. The commonalities there stem from a curiosity and appreciation for the human body and how to best take care of it. I landed on majoring in Nursing, and compromised on the other two by taking several courses of each as electives. When people asked me why I wanted to go into Nursing, it was always because I loved the science behind it and I wanted to be able to help people. I have always had such a deep desire to help others and that will always stay with me.

Fast forward a few years, I graduated with my Bachelor’s in nursing and passed the NCLEX! I landed my first job in the Progressive Care Unit. Funnily enough, PCU was my least favorite of all of my clinical rotations, but as a brand new nurse I couldn’t be too picky. Shortly after I began my orientation at the hospital, Covid-19 started to break out. It was a WILD ride. There’s a lot that I won’t go into, but one of the persistent feelings I had was that I wasn’t actually helping people improve their health and wellness. I felt like we were just slapping bandaids on problems without addressing the root cause. And I couldn’t help but notice that the majority of the conditions we treated were entirely preventable. I began to wish that healthcare would take a more holistic approach and would focus on prevention, but in the mean time I was just surviving the most stressful period of my life up to that point.

After about two years of bedside nursing I was ready for a change, and shortly after I found a job at a GI (Gastrointestinal) clinic. I got to see first hand (literally) what gut inflammation looks like. I’ll tell you what it looks like, it looks painful. This sparked an interest in gut health, and again, prevention of inflammation and disease. Somewhere around that time I decided to take an herbalist course to become certified as a Family Herbalist. I learned a lot of really cool remedies, and more about nutrition. It is so empowering to have the knowledge and tools needed to improve your health and feel better. That’s what I want to share with you!
Through my experiences and education, I’ve come to believe that the key to a happy, healthy life is nourishing your body and eliminating toxins. I have had my own fair share of ups and downs when it comes to health, and those challenges have been the biggest teacher of all. My challenges have lead me to a strong focus on gut health, especially on the microbiome. Ultimately, this blog is my effort at helping people see their health from the perspective of nourishing their bodies to prevent disease. I can’t change the whole medical model, but I can reach people one at a time. And those people can reach other people. And hopefully we can start a wellness movement that helps thousands of people. To our health and happiness!
